In order to serve our students better, we would like to be able to provide more funding to assist with the following needs:

Milwaukee College Prep Wishlist

Cum Laude Dinner Sponsorship: $4,000 Reserved

Having achieved remarkable academic success during the school year, our Cum Laude scholars (those 3rd – 8th grade scholars who achieve a GPA of 93 or above) and their families are able to celebrate this hard-earned distinction with Milwaukee College Prep teachers and staff at our annual Cum Laude Dinner at Serb Hall. The celebration of Cum Laude scholars from all three of our campuses will include approximately 200 proud MCP scholars, teachers, and family.

38th St. Art Room Supplies: $2,500

Milwaukee College Prep is committed to continuing to provide art, music, physical education and technology classes. We have a beautiful sun-filled art room with an extraordinary teacher and talented young artists at our 38th St. Campus. Now all we need are the supplies: paints, brushes, paper, pencils, scissors, pens, clay.

Athletic Sponsorship: $2,500/campus

Milwaukee College Prep sports teams are a vital part of our co-curriculars. They provide teamwork and fitness, and perhaps as important, keep our scholars engaged during those critical after-school hours and build relationships between scholars and staff outside of the academic school day. Team sponsorship would assist in paying our coaches modest salaries, uniforms, transportation and tournament fees.

Field Trip Sponsorship: $2,500/grade/campus

It is essential that our scholars are able to experience a world beyond their neighborhood. The best way to provide them that opportunity is to take them to places like the Schlitz Audubon Center, Milwaukee Art Museum, First Stage Children’s Theater, Milwaukee Public Museum, Discovery World among others. Most of our parents are not in a position to contribute to the field trip fees and as a result the full cost of these trips are absorbed into the school’s annual budget.

Carnival Sponsorship: $2,000/campus

At the end of the school year, it’s time to celebrate and let off a little steam. To that end, Milwaukee College Prep hosts an annual Carnival, which features a variety of carnival games for our more than 1,200 scholars at three campuses, On the same day we award those scholars who have been a guiding light for their peers all year long with the North Star Award…the ultimate recognition of true character.

Incentive Event Sponsorship: $2,000/campus

Each quarter, the scholars who consistently exhibit positive behavior, earn an incentive event. In the past, these events have ranged from ice cream socials and dances to roller skating trips. It is a positive reward for positive choices.

Guest Speakers: $1,200/campus

It is important that our scholars are exposed to extraordinary people beyond their experience. Our guest speakers expose new worlds and new opportunities to our scholars. From poetry to sports, it is a critical part of their learning. On occasion we need to provide a small stipend and travel expenses.

Science Fair Sponsorship: $1,000/Campus

The hands-on learning in our science labs emphasizes independent thinking. From dissection to science fair projects, our scholars experience science and learn how to approach problems logically and skeptically. Every Milwaukee College Prep scholar participates in our annual Science Fair. In order to successfully run experiments, our scholars need a variety of materials. Each of our scholars then receives something in recognition of his or her scientific efforts.

“Spare the Pocket” Sponsorship: $400/classroom

Nationally, teachers spend more than $1.33 billion on supplemental classroom materials. Milwaukee College Prep teachers are no exception. Where they see a gap in supplies, they often fill it themselves to the tune of roughly $400/year. This typically covers the cost of books, student recognition awards, arts and crafts supplies and other items.

Uniform Sponsorship: $35/scholar/year, $350/ten scholars, etc.

We sweat the small stuff at Milwaukee College Prep, believing that the big stuff will follow. The school uniform is a reflection of the environment of hard work and respect. Each elementary school scholar wears a polo shirt or fleece, and navy pants, while the middle school scholars wear polo shirts or fleeces, a blazer and tie, and a skirt or khaki or blue pants. If the parent does not have the means to purchase the uniform, the cost is absorbed in the school’s budget.

Holiday Gift Family Sponsorship: $200/family

For several years, a generous group of volunteers have donated gifts for several MCP families. These gifts are given directly to the parents so that they can then give them to their children on Christmas Day. Today, with three campuses — two with an exceptionally high level of poverty — the need is great.

Library Books: $150/10 books, $500/35, $1,000/70, etc.

Establishing two new campuses, where reading is a hallmark of success, requires significant, working libraries. Most of our scholars get their books from their school libraries, rather than home, book stores or public libraries. In order to provide them with the variety and quality of literature they want and deserve, we need to purchase 2,500 books for both the Lloyd St. and 38th St. libraries. We estimate that outfitting one library will cost $37,500.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play a critical role in our ability to reach every child. We work with a volunteer’s schedule and skills to find a perfect match. Some opportunities include tutoring, coaching, teaching a special class (i.e. cooking, painting, finance, etc.), helping with mailings and special events.
